I commend Rise for taking a leap that no other MH game has really gone to. Now is this a bad thing? I.don't think it is. Now Rise does get criticized for the fast paced combat system eliminating the need for strategic gameplay and simplifying the combat down to "dodge the attack with either your evade, the wirebug, or one of your weapons counter moves" (a lot of weapons have counters) detracts from the difficulty of the game, as strategizing your approach and playing proactively against what is fundamentally still an unpredictable opponent is more difficult than reacting in time to pop one of your, frankly, abundant responses out of thin air. In fact, it almost feels like Rise's combat was inspired by the combat of Dantenetta games. ![]() It's geared towards high velocity gameplay and reaction based combat that you often times see in games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, or Nier Automata. Rise's combat is very fast paced and very reactive. While old world MH and Iceborne were known for more deliberate and strategic gameplay patterns, forcing the player to use their knowledge of monster behaviors and their adaptability to change their approach, playing proactively to avoid getting carted, Rise combat can be boiled down into one primary word: fast. Rise is noteworthy for taking something new and implementing it as a way to spice up the combat. Its groundbreaking in the new stuff it brings, but it isn't groundbreaking in the sense that this new stuff is a dramatic shift in what makes Monster Hunter the franchise it is. But why is that? Is the story so captivating and new that we finally have a MH game with consequences based on character decisions? Are the graphics so out of this world that it made my grandmother think there was an actual dragon in her television? And with it managing the sales numbers it has achieved, its no stretch to say that people like the game. While Monster Hunter Rise has had a relatively tumultuous early life, it still is considered a relatively good Monster Hunter game. There's just a couple of things I want to highlight. It deserves to be analyzed and looked over before its massive content dump comes out and more than likely sends the community into a frenzy about what the next meta set is going to be (how much do we wanna bet its gonna be Long Sword and Sticky LBG still?) So I wanted to have an opportunity to get out my feelings on Monster Hunter Rise and how it has impacted my view of Monster Hunter as a franchise and I feel like some of the things I want to say about the game will more than likely get addressed when Sunbreak comes out, as some of the praises/criticisms I have of the game line up rather well with the praises/criticisms other people have (and many of them are far more aggressive than I am about expressing those opinions).īut Monster Hunter Rise, in my opinion, deserves this. ![]() Submissions of this nature will be removed.Īlways follow Reddit's rules and/or Reddiquette Please refrain from posting topics that have been vigorously discussed in the past.ĭo not repost content that already exists on /r/MHRise.
